The Incredibles (GBA)

The Incredibles land on GBA. The movie, which has been a huge success for Pixar and Disney spawned a videogame line a few days before, which for the console versions we decided that the games were average – nothing particularly wrong but nothing that stood out. The game’s GBA attempt falls in similar line of action.

The game’s gameplay isn’t anything different for GBA. You’ll traverse the game’s many levels through either Mr. Incredibles, Helen or one of the kids. Like the console version of the game, the portable rendition has a number of unique abilities for its many characters, so you can expect Dash to run quite a bit speedier than the others, and Violet can use her invisibility and Mr. incredible is easily the strongest, while Helen is able to her elastically-gifted arms to extend them to great lengths. Unlike the console versions though, the gameplay doesn’t really demand these abilities so you’ll be able to use the standard attack button to get through most of them.

The level design doesn’t do much to encourage it either, although there are a few chase segments thrown in here and there which do spice things up a bit.

Visually, the game does a decent job of keeping up with the movie although the 3D artstyle is changed for a more typical comic book look. Nonetheless, all of the characters are instantly recognizable and animate very well, both in their moves and their overall style. The game’s audio isn’t as noteworthy. The sound effects are pretty standard stuff the usual combat sounds are mixed with generic “superhero-themed” background music.

At the end of the day, The Incredibles isn’t particularly noteworthy. The game is like nearly every other beat-em-up on the GBA and the game seems to be perfectly fine with that. Extreme fans of the series, particularly those in the younger demographic, will dig playing the game with their favorite characters, but otherwise there are much more solid games on the GBA.
