FreekStyle (GCN)

The motocross game has finally arrived. The first of it's genre for the GameCube, will this game make gamers Freekout? Well, here's the deal: Playing as either one of about 4 bikers playable from the beginning, or 6 ones that need to be unlocked, such as Mike Metzger, Brian Deegan, Leeann Tweeden, and Clifford Adoptante, you can get dirty biking on seemingly fictitious tracks on locales, such as Snoqualmie, WA.

There are some great elements in the game. Being able to do an estimation of 200+ tricks, tweaked tricks, and combos, such as the Kiss of Death, and the Show Stopper, looks crazy when performed. Thought this game couldn't get any more sick? Think again. Your HUD consists of Freekout meter (Which, obviously, is filled like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater's Special meter), which, when filled up, enables you to do one of, perhaps, 100 of the four-button Super Sick tricks, when, if landed successfully, causes a Freekout, which makes you go extremely fast (At ?$! MPH), especially when using Boost. The better the trick, the longer it lasts, and the amount of time to Freekout can increase by doing more tricks before time runs out.

The graphics are beautiful. The flames in this game look great, and the characters look perfect. I personally feel they could be better, though.

The music in this game is a great beat, although different people do have different tastes. People who like rock and alternative will like the music in this game. Although there may be no contributing artists you don't recognize, the game's music is good, anyway.

The voice-ins are very humorous, and whoever was hired to do the voice-ins must be hired to do more in future games, as witnessed by one of the female rival bikers getting in Mike Metzger's face before a race.

The controls, however, are this game's weak spot. Instead of having to pull the control stick in a direction and press one button, you usually have to press a bunch of buttons simultaneously to do a trick, and this concept is a finger twister, as the layout of the controller just doesn't fit with the control scheme for tricks. This is a big blow to the Controls category for FreekStyle.

The game's humor, sick tricks, and sickness in general will have you jumping out of your pants. It also has a decent replay value, so you may be playing this game for quite a while. Answering the question I asked in the top paragraph: Will this game make gamers Freekout? Hell yeah. FreekStyle is recommended as a purchase for those who aren't on a tight budget.
