Jimmy Neutron: Attack of the Twonkies (GBA)

Jimmy Neutron returns to GBA. The handheld version of the game is pretty faithful to the solid console version. In Attack of the Twonkies, Jimmy has once again caused a possibly world devastating problem. This time, he unknowingly brings back to Earth an alien race known as Twonkies. These aliens threaten the earth, and Jimmy must use his genius to develop inventions that will prevent them from doing any harm.

In this side-scrolling adventure, Jimmy Neutron will have to run and jump his way through many levels, as he finds many gizmo parts which he will need to build gizmos, inventions and “super” inventions. You’ll need these to continue through the game but that isn’t too hard as you won’t need to look very hard to find them. As you can probably tell from the names, Gizmos are the simplest of gadgets, inventions are a bit more involved and super inventions are the top-notch gadgets.

Eventually, Jimmy will find weapons like a shrink ray, and the like to help him out. He can also use his dog, Goddard, to help him out. Goddard is used very much in the beginning since Jimmy doesn’t have weapons. Goddard can take down enemies and explode them on touch.

The game mirrors the charming look of the cartoon. The many characters, environments, enemies, Gizmos, inventions and everything else could fit right into the cartoon, even though they are 2D. Nonetheless, the developers were able to actively capture the feel of the show, which is very important in a licensed title. The game’s audio is as equally charming with proper sound effects and a catchy background tune.

On the GBA, Jimmy Neutron: Attack of the Twonkies doesn’t distinguish itself as much as it does on the console versions. Nonetheless, the game remains a solid platformer with enough variety to keep the game interesting.
