Legacy of Kain: Defiance (PS2)

Defiance trys to define some things that games have been missing as of late.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance follows the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver series. Kain is a vampire that sucks the blood out of all his victims. Raziel is Kain's fallen lieutenant, he consumes victims souls. Together their fates are intertwined as they wield the Soul Reaver, a powerful sword. I won't tell the whole story because its just to long to tell.

Defiance's game play is pretty good, even though it could be better. As always camera angles screw up the decent game play. The game's length is good as well. Defiance allows you to play as both Kain and Raziel offering different story lines and different styles of play for both.

Voice characterization is were this game really shines. The lips actually move with the words, a thing that has really been out of games as of late. With all the good graphics, it doesn't matter, if it feels like your watching a bad Japanese movie. Games that have bad voicing, take away from the overall effect of the game. Luckily Defiance has awesome voicing so that adds to the overall effect.

The sound is pretty good as well. Offering nice playing at night. Controls are decent, but could be better. Jumping is hard at times but that is because of bad camera angles. I can't stress it enough, bad angles always cause players to get mad when they keep dying because they can't see where they jump to.

All in all Defiance was a good game offering a few days of fun. It is one of the best in the series. I would rent before I buy though, since the game does get repetitive after awhile. As always this is Yankee logging off.
