Freedom Fighters (Xbox)

Viva la revolution!
EA Games has always tried to make games as good as they can and Freedom Fighters is the newest title to grace their lineup.

Freedom Fighters in a strategy shooter; this is where, not running straight into battles is your best choice. In Freedom Fighters you play as Chris Stone. Stone is a Brooklyn plumber (cough* super mario bros *cough), who gets caught up in the conquest of America by The Soviet Union. While going to fix a lady’s plumbing Stone’s brother is caught by the Soviet army. So he must save him, and become the leader of the newest revolution of the United States.

The premise of Freedom Fighters is very good. What if the Soviet’s dropped the H-bomb on Berlin instead of the United States dropping it on Hiroshima? Freedom Fighters explore this alternate fate. This alternate history leads to the Soviets being able to put missiles into Cuba. Also it led to Europe and Mexico becoming a communist government. These events of course did not happen, and it is a good thing they did not.

The gameplay in Freedom Fighters lets you give orders to 12 different men. You give them the simple orders of search and destroy, defend, or follow. When you begin the game you have control of no one, but as you progress you earn charisma points. These are given when you complete missions or heal citizens. There are about 4 or 5 levels of difficulty that give you a challenge every time that you play them. Some of the levels are harder then the others but you shouldn’t have to redo any mission more than 3 or 4 more times. The only problem with the game really is its shortness. It only has about 7 levels with a few missions in each. If you try hard this game can be beaten in a day or two. It is addicting because you do not want to quit till you crush those commie bastards in the ground.

The controls for Freedom Fighters are tricky at first, but later on they become second nature. The sound in the game is great as well. Voice acting is very good, and the script is great as well. Not many dumb one-liner’s; although, I thought it stole a little from Braveheart with all the “Freedom!!!” stuff.

All in all this game is worth the buy, but if you don’t want to buy, this is a must rent rental. Viva la revolution.
