Admit it; you wanted to be a firefighter when you were smaller. Finally you can, thanks to DreamCatcher Games’ excellent title, Emergency Fire Response.
This game lets you take control of a firefighting team where you are completely in control. It is up to you to get to the locations, save people and put out the fires. But trust me, its lots of fun. Believe me though; don’t go into the game without the tutorial. If you understand the basics, you’ll appreciate the game much more.
There are plenty of missions to be completed and each one gives you a hint in the beginning in the form of a cut scene. These missions involve multiple objects but most include saving somebody or something. Nonetheless, it is quite fun because as in real life, putting out a fire is an exciting thing. It isn’t very easy to put out either, just because it goes out once doesn’t mean its going to stay that way.
In order to successfully complete missions you’ll need to control your time with a bit of preciseness. The team include the driver, first aid people and of course the firemen. You’ll need to guide this team into massive buildings, exploring them for rooms with victims. Once you’re done is time to hit the road. So, if the game had a genre, it’d be a real time strategy game.
The graphics are pretty great considering the type of gameplay. The environments change often enough so you don’t feel like you’re going into the same building over and over again and the fire looks pretty great. The camera is over-head although you can zoom and rotate it at your will. The characters in the game look pretty good, and move fluidly. But the best feature about the graphics has to be the lighting. The fire as mentioned looks great but it adds lighting to the environments and makes the whole thing look believable.
Emergency Fire Response doesn’t use an in-game soundtrack, although you can hear some in the cut scenes. Besides those cut scenes you won’t hear too much voice, besides the occasional one-liners. The sound effects are where the game shines with excellent fire-burning-sounds and explosions. There are quite a few sound effects which add to the game even more.
I wasn’t expecting too much out of Fire Emergency Response. The game surprised me quite a bit. It’s a quick playing, great-looking and most importantly fun title. There is no need to discuss the game’s merits even more, this is a definitive buy.
