Kirby's Adventure

The pink puff made the jump from handheld to the last great game for the NES in 1993... This game had a lot of things going against it, not the least of which was the NES was going to be dead by the middle of 1994. So, HAL labs were under pressure to make a great game. They succeeded in making a game that certainly had good gameplay and great sound, graphics, and control. The NES got one last hurrah before it took its final breath. We're glad it did, I'm sure.

The story is King Dedede has taken over the Fountain of Dreams and has split the star rod into seven pieces and has divided them among his friends such as Whispy Woods, Kracko, and the infamous Meta-Knight. Kirby learns that nightmares have plagued Dream Land and he goes out to stop the mischevious king.

The graphics are pretty good by NES standards. They are bright, very cute, and have good definition. Flying may be a slight challenge and there is a bit of questionable hit detection, but nothing too serious. Sound is very cute, and it could be a little too high-pitched. The gameplay is shallow on the level end but the minigames are a blast and should hold your entertainment for a good chunk of time, balancing out the replay value.

Overall, this game is good. Very good, in fact, but it doesn't offer everything we would have hoped for. I wanted to see more challenge and I would have appreciated better replay value and control. But, I like this game a lot and I still play it fondly to this day on my old NES.
