Mega Man X2

The sequel makes an attempt to be a successful encore to the beloved original... Well, Mega Man X2 did not have the publicity that X had and it was a much more ambitious project that did not get a lot of commercials and so on. So, with those things in mind, it was hard for X2 to succeed. However, X2 does an admirable job of picking the story up from where the original left off and adding new faces and new enemies to the mix that are memorable. However, this game lacks the panache and fun of the original and is not one of the stronger X games to come around.

The story is Mega Man X is out to save the world from a group of maverick Hunters and to find Zero, who has been divided into three pieces all over the world. Now, Mega Man, with the help of Dr. Cain, is out to stop the mavericks, repair Zero, and learn the true identity of the resistance leader, no matter what. This is a successful continuation of the series but it lacks the details that the original had.

The graphics have more detail than the original, but it really seems like nothing more than a minor upgrade. The effects are really impressive this time around and X has a much more interesting looking power blast. Otherwise, there isn't too much to say.

The new moves are a little trickier to learn and they can be a hassle, but the rest of the controls are just like the original and very solid all around.

The music is stronger this time around and they leave little to be desired. The sound effects would go on to get an award, which is rather impressive. This is the real strong suit of the game.

To its credit, this game is much harder than the original, but only in the spots that it wants to be. Half of the bosses, like Overdrive Ostrich and Wire Sponge, are fairly difficult. Wheel Gator and others are not. There are also three added bosses that you will have to duel to get Zero's parts. Two are very hard and then one is only mild, but this is a nice added tone of depth.

This is weaker than X, but it still stands out as one of the more interesting Mega Man games. This game is very rare and is very hard to find. So, if you can find it at a garage sale, think of it as the holy grail and get the damn game already.
