WTF: Work Time Fun (PSP)

D3 Publisher’s bizarre collection of minigames hits the States.
WTF: Work Time Fun is a collection of minigames aimed at a slightly older audience than say something like WarioWare. In the game you play as ordinary, bored office worker looking to kill some time. You’re given tasks in the form of minigames by your managers. If you do well at these minigames, you’ll earn money that will unlock new minigames and rewards. All in all, there are 40 such minigames in the games.

The minigames in WTF are extremely varied to the point where there is literally nothing connecting the different minigames. Some of them are very mini lasting just a few seconds while others are considerably longer. Some of these games are quite amusing like “Bishop’s Game” where you try to place an awl in between two fingers. Others include flirting with girls to try to get their phone numbers. Some even give you an unlimited amount of time to look for something. While certain a distraction and time killer, you have to wonder whether these games are truly fun.

Playing these minigames will unlock some prizes as I mentioned above. Some of these are actually useful such as a restaurant bill calculator and world clock. Others are insanely ridiculously like the “Ramen Timer” which counts down the time it takes for ramen to cook while you watch a Japanese person flex. Some are even creepy such as the Eye Spy which displays a set of eyes on the entire display of your PSP. You can trade these unlockables with you friends via the PSP’s wireless connectivity. There are also five real minigames that can be played with a friend, which is a bit disappointing considering that the singleplayer game includes 40.

Visually, Work Time Fun won’t win any awards for its graphics. Nonetheless the game looks better than similar games for other platforms since you’ll find more SNES and PlayStation-quality graphics in the game. The sound effects are just as ridiculous as the game’s graphics which is thankfully what the game is going for.

WTF: Work Time Fun won’t keep you occupied for days but if you have a few minutes you want to kill every now and then, you’ll want to have the game in the library. If only to call the attention of your friends when they see the crazy cover: a kid yelling WTF on a white background, oh, the words “work time fun,” in a significantly smaller size are below it.
