Looking for a great racing game to pass the time with your friends, or by yourself? Then you want to definitely pick up Burnout. I've played it a lot in the past couple of days and they best way I can describe the game-play is a mixture of Gran-Turismo, Ridge Racer, and a dash of Crazy Taxi.
The Graphics of this game are nice and smooth. From the scenery to the reflections on the cars everything was nicely done. When you smash into other cars there is shattered glass, your cars rolling, cars around you are spinning, and yet the frame rate doesn't even suffer. The cars themselves were very slick looking and pretty well detailed every once in a while when you turn you can see one of the cars blinkers come on. When you take a sharp turn you see smoke coming from your skidding tires, or if your skidding through dirt you see clouds of dirt coming from your tires.
The sound is probably one of the best parts of the game because the car engines sound just like a real car. When you crash you can hear the breaking of glass and the smashing of metal, or even the grinding of metal against the pavement as your car slides upside on its roof. When you go into a sharp turn and begin to drift the screeching of the tires is almost life-like.
There are two control presets each of which are extremely comfortable and easy to use. You should be able to become accustomed to them in just a few minutes of play.
Burnout is an extremely fun game to play with friends and by yourself. Doesn't really get too repetitive when you have to dodge and weave your way through cars, while laughing at your friends while they crash, and you go flying by.
Overall there are only a few things that maybe should have been tweaked before the game was released some of the crashes may look nice with the broken glass and your car rolling but its EXTREMELY sensitive with crashes, I come around a corner and barely nip a car and it spins me out crashing. Crashing is a pain because they let the camera sit on your busted up car too long and if you’re not way out in the lead it can become a bother. But, one cool feature they put in the game was a money meter where when you crash it shows how much money your crash racked up some of the crash prices seem a bit exaggerated but not horribly bad. Another thing that would have been nice would be more camera angles there are only two in the game. As far as I could tell the game is only for two-players which is a drawback since it is on Gamecube and X-Box systems where you can have more than two people playing. But all in all the game gets the job done and supplies you with the entertainment you need when you’re bored. -- Anonym. Contributor, PGNx Media ---- Jun 4, 2002
