Outlaw Golf 2 (PS2)

The rowdy golf game returns. The golf game genre is cluttered with very professional (the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series) or very cute (Mario Golf, Hot Shots) games. Outlaw Golf changed that with its rowdiness and now Hypnotix is preparing a sequel for Global Star Games.

This time around, the game will feature eleven over-the-top characters that turn Golf quite rowdy and actually fun. These characters include scantily clad babes, wannabe rappers and deviant thugs take to the course and give a whole new meaning to playing from the rough.

The game features eight courses to play in. Three of them are redesigns from the first Outlaw Golf but the other five are brand-new. You’ll be playing in everything from the artic to steamy jungles and as a bonus, each course features dynamic weather conditions.

Once again, the Composure Response System returns. Composure affects the way the character plays golf. Low composure will cause the player to have trouble making good shots, while high composure will allow the player to make great shots with very little effort. Because of this, composure can greatly improve or reduce a player’s chance to beat his opponents. As expected, the game includes a fighting system that lets you beat up your caddie to increase the Composure Response meter. To gain composure, the player can also perform tricks like donuts, jumps, and slides in their carts.

Outlaw Golf 2 gives you some incentive to play through since you can unlock clubs and balls to be used either during tour or exhibition play as well win new revealing outfits to customize your character. Of course, the quite fun multiplayer mode returns. New to the sequel is four-player online gameplay.

The game features 13 gameplay modes. This includes typical golf modes like Match and Tournament. But the game also features very unique gameplay modes, some of which are discussed below.

Pick Up Sticks - In this two-player only mode, the winner of each hole gets to take a club from the loser.

My One and Only - This one to four player mode has you playing through a course with only one club and one putter. Everyone can choose which club you use, but it better be a wise pick as that will be the only club you can use for the whole course.

Time Attack - In Time Attack, all that matters is how quickly you can get through the course. The timer begins as soon as the player addresses the ball and stops as soon as the club makes contact with it until the ball finds the hole.

Baseball - In this mode, you’;ll play a round of golf with baseball rules and up to four players on the course. Instead of the usual stroke-based scoring system, in this mode, a picture of the four bases determines how well you’re doing. How you play on each hole will decide the type of hit you get, and to score, you’ll need to get one of your men to round the bases back to home. Here’s how your strokes translate into baseball rules: Triple Bogey = Triple Play, Double Bogey = Double Play, Bogey = Out, Par = Single, Birdie = Double, and lastly, Eagle or Better = Home Run.

Each time a man gets on base, he will advance one base for each hit made. So, if you have a runner on second and on the next hole you hit a single, your man will only advance to third base. Breaking it down even further, if you have a man on second and you hit a double, the man on second will round third and head home. The positions of your men on the bases carry over from hole to hole, but if you get three outs, however many runners you had on base will be lost and you’ll have to start from scratch again.

Bingo Bango - In this two-to-four plauer mode, the end result isn’t the only thing that matters. You’ll earn points by being the first player to reach the green, being the closest player to the pin when reaching the green or being the player with the lowest number of strokes.

Outlaw Golf 2 will be released on both PlayStation 2 and Xbox on October 19, 2004 for a suggested retail price of $19.99.
